Review of the American Express Lounge Melbourne Airport
Opened in March 2018, the American Express Lounge Melbourne Airport is a new alternative lounge for eligible American Express Cardholders.
Located right across from the Qantas International Business Lounge, the American Express Lounge Melbourne Airport is not huge (seats 65 people) but more than adequate enough to relax before a long flight .
Once you enter the lounge you walk into the dining area which consists of some dining booths as well as a few communal tables (which have huge lolly jars!). Here you will also find the food and beverage area. We were there for breakfast which consisted of a nice mix of hot and cold food.
Breakfast selections included scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausages and baked beans. You will also find the standard self-serve pancake press, toast and a selection of pastries. The cereal selections were corn flakes, rice bubbles and coco pops. Cold selections included fruits, salads and yoghurt as well as freshly squeezed juices. If you wanted to make a toastie there was also ham, cheese and tomato.
There is a fully stocked bar as well as barista made coffees. For water and soft drinks there is a self-serve drinks area.
Next to the dining area is a stylish, modern looking lounge section which can seat families, couples or singles.
We loved the Melbourne inspired artwork around this lounge and the seats were super comfortable.
No boarding calls are made here but there is a departure board to help keep an eye on your flight status.
Other features of the American Express Lounge Melbourne Airport are a selection of newspapers and magazines, premium wi-fi and plenty of power outlets for charging devices. Currently there are no showers available for this lounge but they should be opened within the next 6 months.
The American Express Lounge Melbourne Airport is open daily from 6.00am to 11.00pm. If this lounge is at capacity you will receive entry into the also newly opened Plaza Premium Lounge right next door.
