During our recent stay at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, we found ourselves constantly impressed by the luxury, comfort, and convenience this hotel offers. Located in the heart of Melbourne’s buzzing shopping and dining district, it’s the perfect base for anyone looking to experience the best of the city.

A quick 20-minute taxi ride from Melbourne Airport got us to the hotel, with a cost of around $50–$60 depending on traffic. Once we arrived, the excitement kicked in – the hotel had a stylish, high-end feel that set the tone right away.
Prestige Suite: Stylish Comfort with Stunning Views
We stayed in a Prestige Suite, which included access to the Club Sofitel Lounge on the 35th floor. The suite itself was lovely — spacious, stylish, and quiet, with sweeping views across the city skyline. It felt luxurious but still cosy, and it was the perfect space to retreat to after a full day out in the city.

Room for Improvement: Bathroom Design
Now, a small downside — the bathroom could do with a refresh. Ours had a bath-shower combo with one of those half-glass panels that never quite stop the water from splashing everywhere. Not a huge issue, just something that stood out in a room that otherwise felt top-tier.

Club Sofitel Lounge: An Exclusive Experience
The Club Sofitel Lounge was a huge highlight. Every evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on weekdays, and from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm on weekends, we could enjoy complimentary drinks and canapés while taking in the spectacular city views. The staff here were top-notch — friendly, attentive, and always making sure your glass was full. It can get a bit busy on weekend evenings, so if you’re hoping for a quiet seat by the window, best to arrive early.

Breakfast: Fresh Flavours with a View
We also had breakfast at No35, and it ticked all the boxes — fresh pastries, an egg station, proper barista coffee, and again, those incredible views. The only small issue was the fruit selection, which felt a bit neglected (those spotty bananas weren’t fooling anyone). Still, the overall breakfast experience was excellent.
Location-wise, you’re in a great spot. We walked to Federation Square, the Botanic Gardens, and even caught a tram to the Queen Victoria Market. Plus, with the Royal Arcade and plenty of designer stores nearby, there’s no shortage of things to see or spend your money on.

Service & Hospitality
Service throughout the hotel was warm and consistent. From check-in to housekeeping, we felt well looked after. Our only real gripe was that our suite was a little too close to the service elevators. We could hear them rumbling into action early in the morning — not ideal for a sleep-in, but not loud enough to ruin the stay either.
Overall Impression
All in all, the Sofitel Melbourne offered a wonderful mix of comfort, convenience, and quiet luxury. It’s not perfect, but the small negatives were easy to overlook given everything else the hotel gets right. For us, it was an easy 9 out of 10 experience, and one we’d happily repeat.
